Kali & Weapons Training
Filipino Martial Arts for Modern Self-Protection.
Filipino Martial Arts (Kali) is one of the world's most complete combat systems, developing skill with sticks, edged weapons and empty-hand techniques through a single, integrated method of training. At Warrior Arts & Fitness, our programme is influenced by Dog Brothers Martial Arts (DBMA), the Pekiti Tirsia Tactical Association (PTTA) and Lab 42, combining traditional principles with modern coaching and pressure-tested training methods. Whether your goal is practical self-defence, personal development or becoming a more complete martial artist, our classes will challenge you to develop confidence, awareness and functional skill in a safe and supportive environment.
Consistency Across Categories
One of Kali's greatest strengths is its consistency. The same body mechanics, footwork and tactical principles are used whether training with a stick, knife or empty hands. Rather than learning separate systems, students develop one adaptable skill set that transfers naturally across every range of combat. This approach builds confidence, accelerates learning and creates martial artists who can adapt to changing situations.
Edged Weapons Awareness
Edged weapons present one of the most serious threats in any self-protection situation. Our training develops an understanding of how blades and knives can be used, the dangers they present, and the tactical principles required to recognise, avoid and manage these encounters.
Students learn to improve awareness, positioning, movement and decision-making while developing practical strategies for reducing risk and creating opportunities to escape. Training also explores the mechanics of knife attacks, defensive concepts and the realities of edged-weapon encounters, always within a safe, controlled and responsible training environment.
Real Contact Stickfighting
To truly develop timing, distance and composure under pressure, training must go beyond compliant drills. Influenced by Dog Brothers Martial Arts, our programme incorporates progressive contact training using appropriate protective equipment. Students develop the ability to apply techniques against resisting partners, improving confidence, resilience and practical skill while always maintaining a structured and safety-focused approach.
